For business owners

You run the business. Craig keeps a close eye on the numbers.

Sound familiar?

  • You’re busy running the business, and the books fall behind.
  • You’re not sure the reports you’re looking at are right.
  • Surprises show up at tax time.

An outsourced controller for your business

Craig brings the same monthly routine he has used as a corporate controller since 2018. He reconciles your accounts, prepares monthly management reports and walks you through them, monitors your cash flow, sets up internal controls that help catch errors and protect your assets, and automates your systems so your data stays clean.

Accurate monthly reports

Bank and card accounts reconciled each month, with a profit and loss, balance sheet and cash summary for your own use, so you can make decisions with confidence.

A second set of eyes on your cash

Cash flow monitored and projected, so you can see tight months coming instead of being caught off guard.

Controls that catch problems early

Simple checks on who approves, pays and records what, to help catch issues early and protect what you’ve built.

Clear answers, not just numbers

Craig explains what your reports mean in plain English and what to watch next, so tax time brings fewer surprises.

FAQ

Common questions

What should I bring for my tax return?
  • Last year's tax return (if you're a new client)
  • W-2s, 1099s (interest, dividends, brokerage, retirement, contract work) and any K-1s
  • Form 1098 mortgage interest and property tax statements
  • Health insurance forms (1095-A if you bought coverage through an exchange)
  • Records of charitable gifts, childcare costs, education expenses (1098-T) and estimated tax payments
  • For a business or rental: income and expense totals, or your QuickBooks file
  • Photo ID and bank routing/account numbers for direct deposit
Not sure if something matters? Bring it — Craig will sort it out.
What are the key tax deadlines?
  • Individual returns (1040): April 15
  • Partnerships (1065) and S corporations (1120-S): March 15 for calendar-year businesses
  • C corporations (1120) and trusts/estates (1041): April 15 for calendar-year filers
  • Nonprofits (990): the 15th day of the 5th month after year-end (May 15 for calendar-year organizations)
  • Quarterly estimated taxes: generally April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15
When a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day.
Can I file an extension?
Yes. An extension gives you more time to file — generally six months for individuals (to October 15) — but not more time to pay. Any tax you expect to owe is still due by the original deadline, or interest and penalties may apply. If you're running late, reach out early and Craig can estimate what you owe and file the extension for you.
I got a letter from the IRS. What should I do?
Don't panic, and don't ignore it. Many IRS notices are simple adjustments or requests for information. Note the response deadline on the letter, try our IRS letter decoder, then send Craig a copy. He'll explain what it means, whether you agree with it, and the best way to respond. With your authorization, he can also contact the IRS on your behalf.
What’s the difference between a controller and a CFO?
A controller looks after the accuracy of your books: closing the month, reconciling accounts, preparing management reports and keeping internal controls in place. A CFO looks forward: budgets, forecasts, cash-flow planning, financing and growth decisions. Many small businesses can’t justify either role full-time, so Craig provides both on an outsourced basis, with Greta handling the day-to-day bookkeeping underneath.
Do you work with clients outside the Spokane area?
Yes. We serve clients across the country. Craig prepares federal and multi-state returns, and meetings, documents and signatures can all be handled by phone, video and secure document exchange.
How much does it cost?
Fees depend on the complexity of your return or project. After a short consultation, you'll get a quote before any work begins.
